Telephone booth on the northwest corner of Berry Street and Broadway, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
February 2001
This is next to Diner, which is one of my favorite restaurants. I thought it would be nice to have a painting to visit when I went there. The painting is based on Paul Sandby’s watercolor, Roadway Through Windsor Forest. I liked the idea of painting over the little holes in the telephone booth that make up the logo for the booth.
Unfortunately, people use the booth to put up signs for bands and apartments and so on. As a result, my painting disappeared quite quickly. My friend Brook said that for a while she kept ripping off the posters, but she eventually gave up. It’s completely buried now.
