| Copy
the Princeton Art Museum’s “Venus and Amor” by Cranach
following the museum’s rules for copyists. Make a 12 minute “security”
video of the 26 hours of copying by recording half a second every minute.
The end of the video shows everything happening that the rules are designed
to prevent: the original is replaced by the copy and the original is “stolen.”
The framed rules are displayed in the museum next to the copy (hung in
the Cranach’s original frame) and the video. Postcards of the copy
and of the original hung in the artist’s home are displayed in the
museum shop for sale. 12 minute video, framed documentation of the Princeton
Art Museum’s copying guidelines, original gilt frame, 30”
x 12” copy in oils of Cranach’s “Venus and Amor,”
postcards. |
